| Mission Statement To introduce high school age instrumental students to orchestral music that is traditionally performed by professional orchestras in a fun and educational environment.
Who can belong? Any high school instrumentalist may belong. The first semester's activity is a retreat weekend in early September. Second semester's activity is a one day rehearsal, with a performance at Chautauqua Park the first Friday in May. There is a separate fee for each activity. Yes!! This orchestra has been in existance for 30+ years. During these years, the baton has changed hands only once. This stability is one reason for the success of the group. In the spring of 2000, the symphony traveled to Denver to compete in the Music in the Parks Festival. One of the judges commented that this was one of the finest high school ensembles he had ever heard. The orchestra received 199 points out of 200 points and was awarded a superior rating, Judges' choice for the Outstanding Ensemble and received two awards for outstanding soloists. Dr. Christopher Stanichar is the Director of Orchestral Activities at the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he has conducted the Heartland Philharmonic Orchestra since 2001. His passion enhances the music, as does his vast orchestral experience. Christopher earned his Doctorate of Musical Arts at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music studying with Gerhard Samuel and has worked with many fine ensembles around the world. He has enjoyed tenure as Music Director of the Omaha Municipal Orchestra (2002 – 2005), the Northern Kentucky Chamber Players (2000 – 2001), and of the Seven Hills Sinfonietta in Cincinnati (1998 – 2000). Prior to these engagements, Maestro Stanichar served as the Conducting Assistant for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1997-98) enabling him to work closely with Maestros Jesús López-Cobos, Erich Kunzel, John Morris Russell, and others. In 1996 Christopher made his international debut when he was awarded a prestigious Fulbright scholarship to study in Slovakia, where he conducted concerts with the Slovak Radio Symphony and Chrysotomos Choir. He has also conducted several orchestras in Russia and the United States. |
