What’s Happening, Vol. 1, Issue 7

Elementary string students will be bringing home a note this week about our upcoming concert on December 6 at the Archway Monument.  If for some reason the note does not make it, you can find all the information on the Elementary page.  For Meadowlark Elementary, there will not  be any orchestra this week.  Mrs. Ellenwood will be in Lincoln attending NE Music Educators Conference.

Seventh and Eighth grade string students had a great day at Strictly Strings this past Saturday.  Their concert was wonderful.  As you see them, make sure to ask them questions about the day.  They will be able to tell you not only what they learned, but also what they learned about the students that sat next to them.  Check the Middleschool page often, as video clips of the concert will go up in the near future.

The Seventh Grade will have their last rehearsal prior to their Lincoln concert Monday night at Horizon MS from 6:00-7:00 in the orchestra room.  Their concert in Lincoln will be Friday, Nov.

Last Monday was the first orchestra concert for the school year.  It was a very busy night, but a great concert.  All the groups played well.  It was the largest attendance for the first concert we have ever had.  A was a great problem running out of programs.  Let’s hope that attendance remains high all year.   It is much more fun playing for filled seats.

Tuesday night was the Kearney Symphony concert.  To all that either attended or were playing---it was an excellent concert.

The All-State orchestra was announced last Saturday and congratulations goes to:
Sebbie Nabb-1st violin, Katy Ayers, Kaitlyn Dahlke, Cherie Oaklund-violas, Briana Pallas-harp, Ben Tye-bass and Brett Potthoff-1st alternate-bass.  The All-State Orchestra concert will be Saturday, Nov 17 at the Lied in Lincoln.

We hope that everyone had a chance to recharge and rejuvenate over the long weekend.  Everyone will be working hard for November and December concerts.

This week’s calendar includes:

What’s Happening, Vol. 1, Issue 3

This last week seemed to be an extremely busy week.

The fifth grade students met for the last time before their concert.  Everyone seems very excited about the concert, but also very nervous.  The number one question is “What if I mess up?”  It will be a great night to learn how to play as an orchestra.  The students need to be at the high school on Monday, Oct 15, at 5:30 pm, with their instruments, music and wearing their good clothes.  There will be a pizza party at 5:45 pm  cost is $3.00.  After pizza, the students will rehearse on the stage.  The concert begins at 7:30 in the high school auditorium.

The seventh grade continues to work hard in preparing for Lincoln.  They will perform two selections on the Monday night concert.

The sixth grade will complete the review of the Essential Elements book 1 this next week.  Everyone will need book 2 a week from Monday, Oct 22.  The sixth grade has begun working on their songs for the Archway concert.  They are looking forward to

This is the second week for our news blog.  Hopefully this will be a great way to keep up on what is happening.

Hope many of you had a chance to hear Dr. Chen last week.  Definitely a “world class” concert.  She is an incredible musician.

On Thursday of last week the Marine Band was in town.  This was another opportunity to hear and see a “world class” performance.  Just think-------both concerts were free.  We are so lucky.

Auditions is this coming Saturday.  Don’t forget to wish the students who are auditioning great success.  Everyone has and is working very hard.

Speaking of working hard, that is exactly what the 7th grade orchestra is doing.  These students are faithfully practicing in preparation for their performance in Lincoln, Nov 16.

The 5th grade orchestra is getting very excited about their first concert.  These students will be guest performers on the senior high orchestra concert, Monday, Oct 15.  In addition the 7th grade orchestra will be performing two

Well as you can see, Mrs. Ellenwood didn’t waste her Friday off.  After a little help from her new friend, Linda, at UNK and a new spirit of “why not take a chance and see what happens,” the website will now have a blog.  If this works, you will be able to subscribe and then be notified every time there is a new posting.  As you can see, this page will connect to our podcasts.  I will try one of our podcasts from this summer.  If it is a success, then you can expect more.  We just bought a new microphone  and there are at least three students ready to begin creating the podcasts  so we are almost up and running.  The final step will be to submit these to itunes.  In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed.

Tomorrow night is Platte Concerts at UNK.  This one features Dr. Chen, violinist, and Dr. Buchner, pianist.  The concert will be French composers only.  The concert begins at 7:30 and is free.  These two musicians are amazing.  Great way to get concert attendance points.
