Orchestra News

This last week seemed to be an extremely busy week.

The fifth grade students met for the last time before their concert.  Everyone seems very excited about the concert, but also very nervous.  The number one question is “What if I mess up?”  It will be a great night to learn how to play as an orchestra.  The students need to be at the high school on Monday, Oct 15, at 5:30 pm, with their instruments, music and wearing their good clothes.  There will be a pizza party at 5:45 pm  cost is $3.00.  After pizza, the students will rehearse on the stage.  The concert begins at 7:30 in the high school auditorium.

The seventh grade continues to work hard in preparing for Lincoln.  They will perform two selections on the Monday night concert.

The sixth grade will complete the review of the Essential Elements book 1 this next week.  Everyone will need book 2 a week from Monday, Oct 22.  The sixth grade has begun working on their songs for the Archway concert.  They are looking forward to their first concert on Dec. 6.

The high school was a very busy place this last weekend, as they hosted All-State auditions.  Nearly 300 students auditioned for either chorus, band, jazz band or orchestra.  The students will have to wait a few weeks for the results.  The orchestras put the finishing touches on their music for the concert on Monday, Oct 15.  This will be the first orchestra concert for this school year.

The eighth grade orchestra continues to work on learning fiddle tunes by ear.  If you happen to see one of these students, ask them to play you one of the tunes.  In addition to fiddle tunes, the eighth grade orchestra is working on the music for Strictly Strings.  This will be Nov 10 at Grand Island Walnut Middle School.  The concert will be at 4:00 and is open to the  public.  This year’s clinician is Gail Rowland, string teacher from Lees Summit, Missouri.

That’s the high points for this week.  Hope you find this information useful.
